I grew up in the same sort of fashion, being the parent. I used to have problems with boundaries when it came to the giving of myself. I have learned (since having a better relationship with myself) that boundaries are a good thing, and it did take a while to learn. I give more thought to who I give myself to. I ask myself questions like.. Why this person? What do I want to give? Why do I want to give? How much of me do I want to give to XXX? If it all goes south, how will I handle it? If what I have to give is not recieved well or toss away, does that really reflect who I am as a person? (which the answer to that one is alway "no").

My time is valuable to me and it is the most valuable thing that I give to a person, as time encompases all kinds of other valuable gifts within it. So why not give some thought and make sure that who is recieving "the best of me" is worth it? Yes, sometimes I do give it away to the wrong person and get screwed, and it does hurt, but I just keep focused on that fact that the actions or inactions of others do not define my self worth in any way. Only those who truly know my heart, have been loyal through out the years, have stuck with me at my worst and at my best are allowed to have any part in the "shaping" of who I am or how I feel.

That's how I cope with all that. xoxo smootchie to you!

Hi Andras. You may have been directed, or re-directed here, via a search engine (or other means), because I stream my own music on my blog. Even still, thanks for coming by, welcome, and leaving a comment.

I agree with you how much music is important in our lives. It's all about creative expression. It can even go beyond music, and encompass all of "Art," in general.

We need to have such outlets in order to "communicate" on a different level, right? I know I feel that way. The more standard, or mainstream ways simply aren't enough.

Take care,
PA

Rock music punk music - all the great stuff comes from bands who kick against the status quo.

Hi spectrumdweller. *laughing* The last portion of your comment made me crack up. Well, crack up in a good way considering this is all about needing therapy! No, as I always state, say whatever you want here! Everybody can!

Those are all valuable things you've said. I can't remember if I told you specifically, but I have mentioned it on my blog. I made up a list of questions, and actually interviewed three GPs as "candidates." I then selected the right one for me. However, this was before I had gotten to the point where I could successfully advocate for myself. I was too frightened to do such a thing before.

Now, I could probably do something that you did! So thanks. I had forgotten about my "interviewing," and you just reminded me about it. A good idea, should I ever get around to actually attempting to finding a Therapist!

I need to also find one covered by our government payroll, too! PA can not afford! Perhaps when my GP comes back from leave, she and I can go back to pulling our hair out together! I know some Therapists do "sliding scales," but nope.

And agreed: Screw "Fluffy Pink." PA has Alexithymia.

Hi Corey. Nice to meet you and welcome to my blog. Thanks so much for coming by and offering your link.

Cheers,
PA

Anonymous Patient,

You may want to try finding a therapist thru www.MyTherapistMatch.com. The site matches you with a compatible therapist - i.e. a therapist that speaks your 'language'.

if i weren't so stubborn, i probably would've had disastrous experiences with therapists. i made it very clear, before going into any clinic, that any therapist assigned to me needed to:

1) not be all overly-emoting, "how does that make you FEEL?"
2) needed to follow me on highly intellectual thought rides, be able to process complex, 3d ideas, visually
3) needed to focus on practical therapy, not freudian analysis

and somehow, usually got placed with therapists that i didn't have awful experiences with. though did get placed once with one fluffy pink therapist who went the whole "and how did that make you feeeeel?" route, and i sat there, confused, and never went back.

note, this comment has been all about me, for which i probably need therapy.

Hi Arkay. Good to see you...again!

You're a funny, funny boy! I have missed our highly, enjoyable wordplay sessions! Absolutely!

And you know me well. Control? Moi?

The song by Joy Division, is actually about a chick totally cracking up and going mental! *laughing* So...yes, appropriate for me, as well!

The appt. was... *sighs* It was what it was. I guess that's all that I can say?

Thanks for the hugs and right back at ya!

Seriously, hope things went as reasonably well as possible with your appt today (((((PA)))))

Hi Claire. Oh, yes! Absolutely! However, there's a funny paradox with people on the Spectrum as well. We have other sensory issues that drive us nuts!

For example: tags on clothing or tight fitting clothing (feeling restrained or strangled.) Although I like to feel restrained or bound in some ways! *laughing*

Other "senses?" Yes, we can have issues with, eyes, ears etc... However, that paradox can still remain. I'm like that with certain things. Another example: a lot of folks can not stand wearing socks! I NEED to wear socks! My feet are very sensitive, and it drives me positively freaky to be in bare feet!

Although I LOVE to have my feet tickled! Yes, I'm nuts.

That you would love sensory stimulation as well? I don't doubt that! We do not have exclusive rights to it! Hey, you and I could do it together! We could have a mutual "Stim-Fest!"

Not to worry about any "elaboration," or anything! I love comments on my blog! I always get back to every commenter, anyway! I always have since this blog's inception and that will never change! *grins*

So that must mean that a sensory room would be your idea of heaven?

I have seen some fantastic ones, even I would love to spend some time in one.

Really appreciate you elaborating on the world of stim :)
