Well it’s nothing semi-serious like Crohn’s, Colitis, IBS, or even Coeliac’s. The biopsies all looked fine.

To put is rather simply, my lower intestine is “stupid.” He actually kind of said that. He told me that intestines love to function well but…they can be “stupid.”

What he believes is that the problem with mine is that it’s not working. Or working correctly. What is happening is when I eat, the food is just sort of stopping at my small intestine and not going any further. Things are getting blocked, presumably, because my lower intestine is not emptying properly. I know, sounds lovely. It’s not like I’m totally impacted or anything as that would necessitate immediate intervention and I’d be in severe pain. Everyone would certainly know about it.

So the first course of action is a “natural” one. I get to overload myself with bran! Great. But not crappy (sorry, bad pun) bran that you eat in cereals because we all know that the fibre content of that is basically nil. Nope, it’s got to be the good stuff and not even psyllium will cut it.

I actually found some stuff in one of the small neighbourhood groceries where I now live. Hopefully it’s good enough but it seemed to look alright. I just downed my first “dose” and I already feel ill. It doesn’t mix well in water so I had to basically chomp it all down in a mealy mess. I’m still trying to get the remnants out of my teeth.

This is not going to be pleasant as I will have to increase the intake over the next few weeks. Water, water, water. Crampy, crampy, crampy. And I’m not quite sure what is going to happen while I am still taking the iron supplements that seemed to make everything go in reverse but sometimes not(?) So pardon me for talking about it but what the hell are my shits going to be like now?! I am already loathe to go to the bathroom as it is.

While in hospital for some reason they lowered the supplements to 100mg but the OTC stuff I was told to buy by my doctor is 300mg so I don’t know what the hell… At least while in hospital when they took my blood I am supposedly not anemic anymore.

The gastro also said that there are more serious complications as to why lower intestine problems can occur but they are more rare (calcium and thyroid issues) but I didn’t have any or those. So I guess that’s good. I’m to go see him in July but I have no clue as to how this will be measurable? What, that I’m shitting better? That I’ve gained weight?

I also mentioned any kind of malabsorption issues. He said nope.

I’m really going to have to try hard at eating more. But if the bran fills me up and I already have such a pathetic appetite…ugh.

Oh well, at least he didn’t prescribe regular colonic irrigation or enemas.
