Musical Inspiration?

I was tagged for a musical meme here from damewiggy. But I’ll get to that. Interestingly enough, my next post was going to be musically related anyway.

Now we all know how to get “free” (ahem, cough…) music. But how great is it when the artist(s) actually offer it up to you to download it right from their sites? Hey, here’s my music! Just take it!

I finally got around to watching the third DVD if the lot that I rented nearly a month ago. Unbelievable. Thank goodness for no late charges with returns anymore. Otherwise it would have cost me who knows what?

So the last was “Sympathy For Lady Vengeance.” It was quite good. Sort of the typical theme for the Asian genre–you’ve totally screwed me over and boy am I going to get you back. Badly. Oh, you are going to pay dearly!

Now, I am not usually one to pay attention to soundtracks. It’s enough for me to pay attention to the plot! And even more so when the movie is subtitled–as this one was. But as the film began with its opening credits, I was stunned. I was immediately taken aback and was actually paying attention to the music.

After it was done, I attempted to find any bits of it online. No luck. Well, here’s the reason why. You can download the entire thing from the film’s website! And this film was released in 2005! It’s all still there. But I suppose that’s fine as you can still rent it?

The soundtrack is mostly adaptations of works by Vivaldi but there are some other pieces there as well. If you want it, take it, I can pretty much guarantee you won’t be disappointed. I will stream one of the songs from it.

Here’s the link.

When the site fully loads, click on media and the zip files are there in four parts.

The second freebie site that I stumbled upon a while ago is from a group called Positively Dark. I don’t know if anyone out there has heard of them but I will stream something by them as well. They say that they are “techno” but I disagree. There are some “throbbing” beats and some sort of electronic background sounds but in some of the songs, there is piano playing that pretty much verges on New Age? I will stream something like this, simply to demonstrate. I downloaded a few of their things but not everything like the lovely “Sympathy For Lady Vengeance” soundtrack.

Here is their link.

So, now on to my meme. I have not been “meme’d” often. This is the third time, actually. Well, not including the very first where I just “meme’d” myself before anyone else did to get it over with.

If you didn’t click on the meme to read what it is about, I am to try and mention one song that inspires me to write. Well, then!

Here’s my answer: I have absolutely no clue. No, really. I don’t. In fact, I can’t think of any song that inspires me to write. I love music of all kinds–I stream it on my blog as you can see and sometimes it might get a little, well, who knows? But I don’t really think that music “inspires” me to write. And one thing is for sure. I can’t listen to it when I write! It buggers my concentration. It’s an ADD thing perhaps. Although, I am sure there are others out there without ADD that need silence or no distractions to write as well.

So, if music doesn’t inspire me, what does? Well, I guess “ideas” of some sort? Personal experiences? Both those of mine and those of others? Maybe just trying to look around and see something that might generate some kind of thought and then off you go?

So, it looks like this meme kind of went bust with me. Sorry about that everyone. But hey, at least I provided everyone with some music and links where you can download it? Maybe it will inspire you all to do some writing?

And I’m not sure who to meme so if you’ve been inspired by the meme too, feel free to take it on and write about it from your own perspective!

  1. Terrible.

Copped out of both parts of the meme. Tsk Tsk

  2. Hi exactscience, haha…yes, I guess that wasn’t so great. Perhaps I shall do better with my next meme…

  3. dame

thanks for the music tips, pa, i’ll make sure to look into them.

don’t sweat the meme. there are plenty of times i can’t bear any sounds when i write. sometimes silence is the best inspiration. good old fashioned peace ‘n quiet. gotta love it.

  4. dame

(i just watched a clip, can’t wait to see it! and i hit the soundtrack, lovely. thanks again, chica)

  5. Hi dame, glad to hear that you liked the music and movie clips? I found the woman that plays Lady Vengeance just gorgeous! Very pretty.

And yes…writing in silence. I need to try and do more…I’ll get to it!

And as always, you are most welcome. Happy to be of service!

  6. Symbiosis

  7. Hi Symbiosis, good to see you! I’m glad you liked.

  8. Sorry PatAnon… I have to second the “tsk’s” from exactscience. What about the lyrics to a song… surely if you’ve read poetry and come across a word combination, or had a new word combination spark in your brain, you’ve been inspired to write a few words. With my little addition to the meme in question it was just, basically, the word “father” screamed out and listened to several times that inspired me to write a piece of about my old man. It didn’t go very far, but there were some ideas and even a minor epiphany which came out of it… I’ve often had an idea for something sparked by a lyric from a song. Paralyzer from Finger Eleven has a lot of great images in it…

woah…..”Lady Vengence…” looks v e r y powerful….m u s t see….almost looks as good as “The Kite Runner”, which site i seem to have dedicated my life to lately…! Please pay it a visit, if you get the chance… You can be sure i will be watching the trailer for “Lady Vengence” many more times……who me, obsessive…? hahahaha Hope you are doing well, PA….thanks for everything, love, tracy

  10. tracy

PS i also must say that is one of the most beautiful images i have ever seen on the internet…the stunning woman surrounded by roses, with rays of light blazing behind her, the tears runing down her cheeks and the extrodinary music in the background…ah, yes, i am touched beyound words….or else i have been off the Cymbalta too long…better pick up that scrip’…. ; ) tracy

  11. Hi Gabriel…, I’m sorry. Maybe I have to think harder about this one. Or maybe I can use it as an inspirational idea. Or maybe I just can’t write like others. Or write period.

I have a lot of problems trying to be a “visual” person. I have a lot of problems trying to “create” in that area. I am working on that. I have a lot of problems with fiction. I am working on that too. I have a lot of problems writing at all these days–or maybe ever..I don’t know. Maybe I’m not much of a writer at all.

I haven’t done much of anything lately. Or maybe much of anything at all apart from this blog (and even that is sucking.) And again, I tried to co-lead a writing group until it folded after a short period. Again…only try.

So yes….I will try. It is all I can really do.

Hi tracy, I am glad you liked the Sympathy For Lady Vengeance stuff. If you like that genre of film, I would highly recommend it. I will check out The Kite Runner.

  12. Actually, I just tagged you also!!! Heh.

A question on a musical topic. A while ago, you ‘hosted’ what is supposed to be the theme from House, ‘Tearsdrop’ by Massive Attack. I love this track but do you know if there is a closer version to the House one ie. purely instrumental?
If anyone knows, you would (ah, the pressure).

  13. Hi Health Psych, good to see you.

Yes, “Teardrop” is the opening theme song from House. Great memory of my streaming it! That was done way back on my Blogger blog!

I am assuming from your comment you are looking for an instrumental version of that? Or are you looking for an instrumental version of another song that was played on another episode?

Let me know. I might not be able to find the former. I don’t believe one was released. Too bad I’m not a musician with some fancy editing software or something and I could take Liz’ vocals out? Although she is a great vocalist, don’t you think?

    Take care,

  14. Hello.

No pure instrumental version has ever been released. The CD single had four versions, the original album mix and three remixes. The fourth track, which didn’t appear on the 12″ was an instrumental remix however it clocked in around 7 minutes and not five and a half as with the original mix.

There are countless covers floating around of it. I have two, one by Elbow and one by The Section Quartet, both ace. The Section Quartet is all strings and no vocals.

The House theme was created by using the non-vocal sections of the album mix, as well as laying over the sound of a heart beat.

No instrumental version of the album version exists. Alas. Sorry. Maybe if you had a friend with some sound editing software.
